The Void
Welcome to 30 Days of Encouragement – Day 8 – The Void. To read from Day 1 of the series, click here.
Do you know that space between where you are and where you are going? That space where it appears and feels like there isn’t any forward momentum occurring? You cannot see any differences, yet somehow you know they are happening despite that. I call that space The Void *dun dun duuunnn* and it is the area in which I currently find myself.
Occupying The Void
This is not one of my favorite areas of life. It is dark, confusing, and rakes up self-doubt. I have been here before and will undoubtedly be here again at another point. Did I misread the situation? Miscalculate the steps I felt I was supposed to take? Did I understand the assignment? Was there even an assignment to begin with? You know the drill.
You start off on a path with the excitement of Christmas morning only to discover that the course is longer than first thought, and the light blinks as it so chooses.
The Light in The Void
A path being clear and bright is always a nice perk. Having light when walking helps avoid the inevitable stumbling blocks. In The Void, light is temperamental at best. It is there, but it is so far off that you cannot see it, or it is so dim you wonder if your eyes are playing tricks on you.
You are moving forward because it is pulling you along and not necessarily because you willingly take steps. Less guiding and more drawing. When it is cloudy or rainy, the sun is still in the sky; the clouds get in the way of seeing it. The Void is very much like that. The light is there, but it cannot be seen for the darkness.
Blind Trust
As if the darkness is not unsettling enough, The Void requires an element of blind trust. Blind trust in yourself, God, the universe, et cetera. I do not know about you, but blind trust does not evoke positivity in me. It instead brings out quite the opposite. Feel free to refer back to the questions at the start of this post.
Blindly trusting is a decision when walking through The Void. A decision to believe in yourself and your intuition. A decision to believe that the universe is friendly. Albert Einstein stated it this way, “The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.” It is not an easy decision to maintain the universe is friendly when in the middle of walking through it. But keep it, you must.
Keep Going
If you find yourself occupying the same space I currently find myself in, I want to encourage you to keep going. Make the decision to believe the universe is friendly. Yes, it is hard but necessary. Do it even if you need to reconfigure some systems or simply just push through those feelings of self-doubt. You started on your path because something drew you to it. Keep going, even in The Void.
Until next time,
Rah
